Increasing spur gear durability: two-material spur gear
International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2005A new design method to improve durability of spur gears made of low tensile strength material is utilised. In this method, the gear is made of two materials, where most of the gear body is made of low tensile strength material (like gray cast iron or aluminium), and only teeth fillets are made of high tensile strength material (like steel).

Dynamic optimization of spur gears
Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2007This paper presents a global optimization method able to find gear profile modifications that minimize vibrations. A non linear dynamic model is used to study the vibrational behavior; the dynamic model is validated using data available in literature. The optimization method takes into account the influence of torque levels both on the static and the ...

Dynamic Behaviour of Spur Gears
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1963In an earlier paper by one of the authors (9) a theoretical analysis suggested that, at certain speeds, large vibrations can occur in a pair of spur gears, without any manufacturing errors and without any external excitation, provided the damping is less than about 0ยท07 of critical.

Investigation into nitrided spur gears
Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 1996The cold forging method has been widely used in industry to produce machine parts. In general, gears are produced by shaping or hobbing. One of the shaping techniques is precision forging, which has several advantages over hobbing. In the present study, cold forging of spur gears from Ti-6A1-4V material is introduced.

The simplest method by which a gear can be cut is to use a tool shaped exactly like the tooth space of the gear. This method of cutting gears is known as form cutting. In practice, the cutting tool is generally a milling cutter, such as the one shown in Figure 5.1. The gear blank is held stationary while the cutter is fed slowly in the direction of the

The Torque Responses in Spur Gearing
Volume 1A: 25th Biennial Mechanisms Conference, 1998Abstract In this study, the frequency spectra of a meshing spur gear pair are derived. A two-step mesh stiffness model is assumed to account for the time varying stiffness during the teeth engagement. The analytic load of this simplified gear pair system is used to derive the corresponding Fourier expansion series of the transmitted ...

Interference Between External Spur Gears
2020In this chapter, the problems of interference between external spur gears in both cutting and working conditions are first described and discussed. The discussion is quite general and therefore includes involute or primary interference and fillet interference.

A simplified design method (SDM) for spur gears is presented. The Hertz contact stress and Lewis root bending stress capacity models for spur gears have been reformulated and formatted into simplified forms. A scheme is suggested for estimating the AGMA J-factor in Lewis root bending stress for spur gears from a single curve for both pinion and gear ...
