Increasing spur gear durability: two-material spur gear

International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2005
A new design method to improve durability of spur gears made of low tensile strength material is utilised. In this method, the gear is made of two materials, where most of the gear body is made of low tensile strength material (like gray cast iron or aluminium), and only teeth fillets are made of high tensile strength material (like steel).

Dynamic optimization of spur gears

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2007
This paper presents a global optimization method able to find gear profile modifications that minimize vibrations. A non linear dynamic model is used to study the vibrational behavior; the dynamic model is validated using data available in literature. The optimization method takes into account the influence of torque levels both on the static and the ...

Dynamic Behaviour of Spur Gears

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1963
In an earlier paper by one of the authors (9) a theoretical analysis suggested that, at certain speeds, large vibrations can occur in a pair of spur gears, without any manufacturing errors and without any external excitation, provided the damping is less than about 0·07 of critical.

Gear Tooth Stress of an End-Relieved Spur Gear

Bulletin of JSME, 1966
In the nose-suspended type traction gears, the angle between the projected lines of axes of pinion and gear on pitch plane often becomes equal to about 10' and end tooth bearing happens, leading to tooth failures. In JNR, as the countermeasure for these failures, heavily crowned gears are used for nose-suspended type traction gears.

Investigation into nitrided spur gears

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 1996
The cold forging method has been widely used in industry to produce machine parts. In general, gears are produced by shaping or hobbing. One of the shaping techniques is precision forging, which has several advantages over hobbing. In the present study, cold forging of spur gears from Ti-6A1-4V material is introduced.
