Railway curve squeal prediction using environmental variables [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Artificial Intelligence
IntroductionCurve squeal is a loud tonal noise from railway traffic that contributes to environmental noise pollution. Squealing arises from friction-induced vibrations in the wheel-rail contact during vehicle curving under specific friction conditions ...

Influence of Brake Pad Temperature Variation on the Squeal Noise Characteristics of Disc’s In-Plane Vibration Mode [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
This study investigated the squeal noise characteristics of the in-plane mode of the disc in a disc brake system as influenced by the temperature of the brake pad.

Dynamics of a brake system governed by modified Burridge-Knopoff-Pad model [PDF]

open access: yesHeliyon
Despite widespread investigations to improve on the performance of automobile brake systems, the undesirable phenomenon of disc brake squeal noise remains a very challenging problem to solve. Consequently, we thus propose a basic theoretical brake system

Elastomer with Microchannel Nanofiber Array Inspired by Rabbit Cornea Achieves Rapid Liquid Spreading and Reduction of Frictional Vibration Noise [PDF]

open access: yesBiomimetics
Reducing friction-induced squeal noise is a common issue in daily life and industrial production, particularly for elastomers. However, adjusting structure and wettability in wet environments to solve the friction-induced squeal noise remains a challenge.

Brake Squeal Investigations Based on Acoustic Measurements Performed on the FIVE@ECL Experimental Test Bench

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Radiated noise is a major topic of interest regarding the brake squeal phenomenon as it is directly linked to the noise generated which can be potentially detrimental to user comfort and perception.

The Numerical Study for the Effect of Stiffness Matching on Wheel–Rail Curve Squeal Noise

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
This study delves into the phenomenon of high-frequency squeal noise occurring as trains traverse small-radius curved tracks and investigates the factors influencing wheel–rail curve squeal noise, particularly focusing on stiffness matching.

A Study on the Influence of Dominant Parameters Related to Brake Squeal in the Brake System with the Flexible Pad [PDF]

open access: yes한국정밀공학회지, 2022
The brake squeal noise is a high-frequency noise over 1 kHz range generated by the contact between the brake pad and the disk. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the behavior of the squeal noise characteristics of the brake system from an ...

Deep Gaussian Process for the Approximation of a Quadratic Eigenvalue Problem: Application to Friction-Induced Vibration

open access: yesVibration, 2022
Despite numerous works over the past two decades, friction-induced vibrations, especially braking noises, are a major issue for transportation manufacturers as well as for the scientific community.

Railway wheel squeal. Squeal of a rotating disk.

open access: yesJSME international journal. Ser. 3, Vibration, control engineering, engineering for industry, 1989
A steel rod was rubbed against the circumference of a thin steel rotating disk in its axial direction. A rotating disk serving as a railway wheel was clamped at the inner radius and free at the outer radius. A squeal occurred at low rotational speeds, when a nodal diameter mode of the disk was stationary in the space-fixed coordinated system.

Friction-Excited Oscillation of Air Conditioner Rotary Compressors: Measurements and Numerical Simulations

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
The oscillation of a rotary compressor was measured and analyzed in the frequency and time domains. The harmonic wavelet transform was used to dissolve the oscillation signal into a series of single-frequency components.
