Vestibular Ganglion of the Squirrel Monkey

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1982
The vestibular ganglia of adult squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) were studied with the aid of light and electron microscopy. The vestibular ganglia are formed by small and large neurons (perikarya). The perikarya's outermost surface is surrounded by 2–20 lamellae of compact myelin.

Microwaves Induce Peripheral Vasodilation Squirrel Monkeys

Science, 1980
Vasomotor activity in cutaneous tail veins was indexed by changes in local skin temperature during exposure of the whole body to 12.3-centimeter continuous microwaves. At an ambient temperature (26°C) just below that at which tail vessels normally vasodilate, criterion dilation was initiated by 5-minute exposures to a microwave power density of 8 ...

The squirrel monkey stabilimetry.

Acta oto-laryngologica, 1982
In order to characterize postural ataxia associated with peripheral vestibular lesions, we have developed a T-perch recording system suitable for squirrel monkeys (tree-living primates). This system includes strain gauges for detecting movement of the vertical shaft in the directions of anterior-posterior and left-right.

Senile plaques in aged squirrel monkeys

Neurobiology of Aging, 1987
Aged squirrel monkeys develop senile plaques in the brain that are similar to those occurring in aged rhesus monkeys and aged humans. These plaques consist of abnormal, swollen neurites around an amyloid core. In whole-hemisphere coronal sections through the level of the rostral temporal lobe, plaques are present in temporal cortex, amygdala ...

Endometrial Adenocarcinoma, Squirrel Monkey

1993
An endometrial adenocarcinoma in an adult female squirrel monkey, Saimiri sciureus, was associated with a mass of fibrous tissue which encompassed the uterus, urinary bladder and rectum. Firm white nodules were scattered throughout the mesentery. Loops of intestine were tightly adherent and fibrous constrictions in some areas resulted in dilation of ...

Allomaternal vocal behavior in squirrel monkeys

Developmental Psychobiology, 1992
AbstractThree groups of squirrel monkeys, containing 1–3 infants (N = 7) and 4 adult females each, were observed weekly for the first 12 weeks of the infants' lives. Infants received approximately 100 vocalizations, mostly “caregiver” calls, per waking hour from their mothers and the other adult females with whom they were housed (allomothers). Mothers

Visual sensitivity in the squirrel monkey

American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 1973
AbstractSeveral indices of visual sensitivity have been obtained from behavioral experiments conducted on the squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus). In this species, the photopic spectral sensitivity functions determined by increment‐threshold and flicker discrimination procedures are substantially different; the involvement of two different neural ...
