The Sheffield RNAi Screening Facility (SRSF): Portfolio Growth and Technology Development

open access: closedCombinatorial Chemistry & High Throughput Screening, 2014
The Sheffield RNAi Screening Facility (SRSF) (www.rnai.group.shef.ac.uk) was established in 2008 with Wellcome Trust and University of Sheffield funding, with the task to provide the first UK RNAi screening resource for academic groups interested in identifying genes required in a diverse range of biological processes using Drosophila cell culture. Zinc‐induced modulation of SRSF6 activity alters Bim splicing to promote generation of the most potent apoptotic isoform BimS

open access: closedThe FEBS Journal, 2013
Bim is a member of the pro‐apoptotic BH3‐only Bcl‐2 family of proteins. Bim gene undergoes alternative splicing to produce three predominant splicing variants (BimEL, BimL and BimS). The smallest variant BimS is the most potent inducer of apoptosis. Zinc (Zn2+) has been reported to stimulate apoptosis in various cell types.

Abstract P5-06-11: Serine Starvation Inhibits SRSF Protein Expression and Modulates RNA Splicing in Breast Cancer Cells

open access: closedClinical Cancer Research
Abstract Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, and luminal/estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer accounts for ∼50% of breast cancer deaths. Our lab has identified serine auxotrophy as a metabolic vulnerability of luminal/ER+ breast tumors due to low levels of the serine synthesis enzyme phosphoserine ...
