The Necessity of Stab-Resistant Body Armour for Protecting Prison Officers in Saudi Arabia

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
Protection and comfort are significant aspects for body armour. This study surveyed 102 prison officers in Saudi Arabia about their opinion on the current body armour they may use in terms of protection and comfort. This is to understand the need for protection with body armour and improve protective fabric designs with enhanced comfort performance for

A new method of ergonomic testing of gloves protecting against cuts and stabs during knife use

Applied Ergonomics, 2017
The paper presents a new method of ergonomic evaluation of gloves protecting against cuts and stabs during knife use, consisting of five manual dexterity tests. Two of them were selected based on the available literature and relevant safety standards, and three were developed by the authors. All of the tests were designed to simulate occupational tasks

Growth inhibitory factor (GIF) can protect from brain damage due to stab wounds in rat brain

Neuroscience Letters, 2006
We examined the effect of growth inhibitory factor (GIF), also called metallothionein-III (MT-III), in brain damage using a stab wound model. The administration of 3 microM purified rat GIF (prGIF) provided significantly improved brain repair compared with controls, whereas the administration of 15 microM prGIF reduced brain repair compared with ...

Two-dimensional (2D) fabrics and three-dimensional (3D) preforms for ballistic and stabbing protection: A review

Textile Research Journal, 2016
In this study, the impact resistance of two-dimensional (2D) fabrics and three-dimensional (3D) preforms is explained. These fabrics and preforms include 2D and 3D woven and knitted flat and circular fabrics. Various types of soft/layered structures as well as rigid composite are outlined with some design examples for ballistic and stab threats.
