Cdc14 phosphatase counteracts Cdk-dependent Dna2 phosphorylation to inhibit resection during recombinational DNA repair

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Cyclin-dependent kinase (Cdk) stimulates resection of DNA double-strand breaks ends to generate single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) needed for recombinational DNA repair.

Dynamical stability criterion for inhomogeneous quasi-stationary states in long-range systems

open access: yes, 2010
We derive a necessary and sufficient condition of linear dynamical stability for inhomogeneous Vlasov stationary states of the Hamiltonian Mean Field (HMF) model.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

PARP3 is a sensor of nicked nucleosomes and monoribosylates histone H2BGlu2

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Chromosomal single-strand DNA breaks occur frequently and require repair to avoid disease outcomes. Here, the authors show that in bird cells, PARP3 accelerates this repair, and use structural biology and cell biology techniques to reveal details of the ...

Study of resonant oscillations of an earth dam under seismic impacts considering dissipation in soil [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The article proposes methods for numerically solving a nonstationary vibration problem of an earth dam using the finite element method in a plane formulation under dynamic impact.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Molecular basis for DNA repair synthesis on short gaps by mycobacterial Primase-Polymerase C

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Mycobacteria Prim-PolC performs short gap synthesis following removal of lesions during excision repair. Here the authors resolve crystal structures of pre- and post-catalytic Prim-PolC complexes bound to gapped DNA substrates to define its mechanism.

More Than One Step to Financial Stability [PDF]

open access: yes
Visiting Scholar Garry Schinasi examines the European proposals for the creation of both a European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) to oversee macroprudential regulation and a European System of Financial Supervision (ESFS) to strengthen microprudential ...
