RNA-dependent stabilization of SUV39H1 at constitutive heterochromatin

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Heterochromatin formed by the SUV39 histone methyltransferases represses transcription from repetitive DNA sequences and ensures genomic stability. How SUV39 enzymes localize to their target genomic loci remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that chromatin-associated RNA contributes to the stable association of SUV39H1 with constitutive heterochromatin

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The 1998 “‘mini-Constitution’ for local government”: A review of the assumptions of the White Paper on Local Government

open access: yes, 2022
Many South African municipalities suffer service-delivery problems that can usually be ascribed to inadequate management, skills, and budgets. The reasons for these, in turn, invariably include weak economic base, unwise spending of available funds, and ...

'n Toekomstige Perspektief op Grondwetlike Stabiliteit [PDF]

open access: yesPotchefstroom Electronic Law Journal, 2010
This article is the Afrikaans teks of Former State President F W de Klerk's lecture in a series bearing his name last year in October. Some of the other lectures in the series were published in PER (2004(2), 2005(1), 2009(2).

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Namibian Police Preservation of Internal Security: Lesson from other Countries Constitutions [PDF]

open access: yesE-Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
Constitutions are considered essential pieces of legislation; without them, insecurity would likely be more widespread globally. They define roles, set permissible boundaries, and establish when obligations should be fulfilled, thus providing a framework

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

SIGNIFICANCE AND PECULIARITIES OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA

open access: yes, 2019
The meaning of the Constitution is significant in our society life given it is the supreme law of the country, regulating the most important relations between the Human Being, the Society and the State.
