Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Parallel two-stage reduction to Hessenberg-triangular form [PDF]
We present a two-stage algorithm for the parallel reduction of a pencil to Hessenberg-triangular form. Traditionally, two-stage Hessenberg-triangular reduction algorithms achieve high performance in the first stage, but struggle to achieve high performance in the second stage. Our algorithm extends techniques described by Karlsson et al.

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

The Value of Multi-stage Stochastic Programming in Risk-averse Unit Commitment under Uncertainty [PDF]
Day-ahead scheduling of electricity generation or unit commitment is an important and challenging optimization problem in power systems. Variability in net load arising from the increasing penetration of renewable technologies have motivated study of various classes of stochastic unit commitment models.

“Animating” the Stage - Stage Elements [PDF]
Abstract In modern days, new acting spaces have become popular through the artistic expression and diversity of means they offer to the actors so that they get closer to their audience, sometimes ignoring the dramatic text and using it more like a pretext in a given context.
