Standard Uncertainty of a Measurement
2014Standard uncertainty can be thought of as the building block for uncertainty analysis—the lowest common denominator. Analysts have to combine uncertainties that are quoted in different ways, and this chapter demonstrates how to convert these uncertainties into standard uncertainties.

Uncertainty in sample estimates: standard error
BMJ, 2015The efficacy of nicotine patches among pregnant smokers was investigated using a randomised placebo controlled trial. The intervention was the administration of 16 hour nicotine patches after recruitment until the time of delivery. Participants were pregnant women over 18 years who smoked at least five cigarettes a day and whose babies were between 12 ...

A new model equation for determining the measurement result in standard addition experiments was derived and successfully applied to the quantitative determination of rhodium in automotive catalysts. Existing equations for standard addition experiments with gravimetric preparation were changed in order to integrate the novel idea of including the ...

Standard Uncertainty estimation on polynomial regression models
2014 IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium (SAS), 2014Polynomial regression model is very important in the modeling and characterization of sensors. The uncertainty propagation through the polynomial nonlinearity can only be estimated through numerical simulation or linearization approximation according to the Guide to the expression of Uncertainty in Measurement.

Standard and entropic uncertainty relations of the finite well
Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2002Summary: This paper deals with the standard and entropic uncertainty relations for the finite-potential well with different length and potential depth. We calculate the position and momentum dispersions and entropies that are dependent on the quantum states of the finite well and determine the corresponding standard and entropic uncertainty relations ...

Analytical Chemistry, 2013
The analytical expressions for the calculation of the standard uncertainty of the predictor variable either extrapolated or interpolated from a calibration line that takes into account uncertainties in both axes have been derived and successfully verified using the Monte Carlo modeling.

Non-standard theories of uncertainty in knowledge representation and reasoning
The Knowledge Engineering Review, 1994Abstract This paper provides a survey of the state of the art in plausible reasoning, that is exception tolerant reasoning under incomplete information. Three requirements are necessary for a formalism in order to cope with this problem: (i) making a clear distinction between factual information and generic ...

Standardized Assessment of Reasoning in Contexts of Uncertainty
Evaluation & the Health Professions, 2004Current written tools of assessment are mostly measuring the capacity to solve well-defined problems by the application of rules and principles, while the essence of expertise in the professions lies in the capacity to solve illdefined problems, that is, reasoning in contexts of uncertainty.

Distances, angles, and their standard uncertainties
2006Methods for calculating distances and angles and the standard uncertainties in these quantities using the techniques of tensor analysis are described. A Fortran program showing how this tensor formulation can be adapted to computer languages is also given.

An Uncertainty Analysis of the NIST Airspeed Standards
Volume 2: Fora, Parts A and B, 2007The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides calibration services for airspeed instrumentation. This document describes the uncertainty of the NIST airspeed standards. An extensive component analysis of the system was performed. The standard for airspeed measurement at NIST is a fiber optic Laser Doppler Anemometer (LDA), which is
