Beyond the Wild MRSA: Genetic Features and Phylogenomic Review of mecC-Mediated Methicillin Resistance in Non-aureus Staphylococci and Mammaliicocci [PDF]

open access: yes
Methicillin resistance, mediated by the mecA gene in staphylococci and mammaliicocci, has caused tremendous setbacks in the use of antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine due to its high potential of presenting the multidrug resistance (MDR ...

Safety evaluation of Sjenica cheese with regard to coagulase-positive staphylococci and antibiotic resistance of lactic acid bacteria and staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sjenica cheese is an artisanal cheese stored in brine, traditionally produced from raw sheeps milk in the southern part of Serbia - Sjenica Pester plateau. The aim of this study was to perform the safety evaluation of Sjenica cheese. As one of the safety

Engineering Human Donor Derived Germinal Center‐Like Organoids (GCLOs) for Studying Immune Response to Vaccination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We bioengineered a new approach methodology of generating Germinal Center Organoids that self‐organize from human blood‐derived immune cells. These immune organoids reproduce key features of humoral immunity, IgG production, and plasmablast emergence.

Methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci from healthy dogs in Nsukka, Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The occurrence, resistance phenotype and molecular mechanisms of resistance of methicillinresistant staphylococci from groin swabs of 109 clinically healthy dogs in Nsukka, Nigeria were investigated.

A Plant Photoregulator‐Inspired S‐Type Heterojunction System for Diabetic Keratopathy via Tri‐Modal Light‐Driven Immunometabolic Reprogramming, Tissue Repair, and Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To address the multifaceted imbalance in diabetic keratopathy, a light‐responsive biomimetic platform (WCNx‐Rh2) is developed and integrates glucose degradation, immune modulation, and antibacterial defense through a designed heterojunction and screened immunomodulator. WCNx‐Rh2 reduces AGEs/ROS and inflammatory signaling, reprogramming dendritic cells

Elastase Production by Oral Staphylococci

open access: yes, 1974
Cultures of staphylococci isolated from the mouth and nose were assayed for their ability to degrade various proteins including elastin. Almost two thirds of the oral cultures and over a half of the nasal cultures produced elastase.

Significance of coagulase-positive staphylococci for microbiological food safety [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Staphylococcal foodborne intoxication, in which major symptoms are vomiting and diarrhoea, occurs after ingestion of thermostable staphylococcal enterotoxins produced in food by enterotoxigenic strains of coagulase-positive staphylococci.

Biomimetic Nanoplatform for Dual Target Nano‐Metabolic Therapy in Diabetes‐Associated Biofilm Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic GOx/Arg‐loaded nanoplatform produces nitric oxide through an in situ catalytic cascade reaction, enabling dual‐target metabolic regulation in diabetes‐associated biofilm infections. Bacterial metabolism is disrupted, and macrophage immunometabolism is reprogrammed, resulting in biofilm eradication, immune restoration, and enhanced ...

Mechanisms of resistance to antimicrobial peptides in staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Staphylococci are commensal bacteria living on the epithelial surfaces of humans and other mammals. Many staphylococci, including the dangerous pathogen Staphylococcus aureus, can cause severe disease when they breach the epithelial barrier.

Enhanced Antibacterial Properties of Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline Nanoparticles via Curvature Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid nanostructured particles with increasing negative Gaussian curvature progress from vesicles to P‐cubosomes and D‐cubosomes. This curvature hierarchy enhances interaction with bacterial membranes, promotes membrane remodeling and leakage, and potentiates daptomycin activity against MRSA.
