Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Evaluation of Infection in Nylon and Staple Sutured Wounds in Surgeries of Intertrochanteric Femoral Fractures

open access: yes, 2022
Introduction: Infection of surgical wounds is an important complication that delays recovery and the length of hospital admission. This study aimed to determine the infection rate in intertrochanteric femoral fracture surgeries by two methods of closure ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Consequences of Differing Wool Growth Rates on Staple Strength of Merino Wethers with Divergent Staple Strengths

open access: yes, 1998
An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of dietary protein intake after a period of weight loss on the wool components of staple strength for sheep with a history of low or high staple strength (18.0 vs 34 Nlktex). After being fed to lose 15%

Staple line reinforcement during laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: Does it affect clinical outcomes?

open access: yes, 2013
Although laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is safe and efficacious treatment for morbid obesity, this procedure is associated with major staple line complications including leakage and bleeding. Staple-line reinforcement (SLR) either through suturing

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

Cortisol-induced follicle shutdown is related to staple strength in Merino sheep

open access: yes, 2001
This experiment was conducted to determine the extent to which follicle shutdown and fibre shedding are related to staple strength, and to characterise the histological changes in the wool follicles and fibres of sheep after exposure to elevated cortisol

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...
