The Realization of Multidirectional, Free‐Standing 3D Plasmonic Nanostructures via 3D Nanoprinting: A Case Study of Fractal Antennas

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Free‐standing plasmonic gold‐based fractal antennas are fabricated by 3D nanoprinting, employing focused electron beam induced deposition and an optimized purification method to remove carbon while conserving structural fidelity. Simulation and experiment show broadband plasmonic activity, including customizable polarizability, thereby paving the way ...

The Red Horizontal-Branch Star HD 17072 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1998
We summarize the results of a spectroscopic analysis of HD 17072, finding it to be a metal-poor ([Fe/H] = -1.17) red horizontal-branch star with Teff = 5375 K and log g = 2.4. We also derive a radial velocity of 62.8 km s-1. It has the best determined Hipparcos trigonometric parallax among the metal-poor field horizontal-branch stars and supports the ...

THE KINEMATICS AND CHEMISTRY OF RED HORIZONTAL BRANCH STARS IN THE SAGITTARIUS STREAMS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We have selected 556 red horizontal branch stars along the streams of the Sagittarius (Sgr) dwarf galaxy from Sloan Digital Sky Survey DR7 spectroscopic data using a theoretical model.

Synergistic Fluorine and Cyanide Co‐Modification to Reinforce Photoinduced Excitons Formation and Transfer for Efficient CO2 Photoreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An advanced F‐doped and ─CN group co‐modified FCCN is developed. Due to the synergistic effects of co‐modification in promoting photogenerated exciton generation, enhancing charge kinetics, expanding active interfacial areas, and optimizing CO2 interfacial reactions, the FCCN photocatalyst demonstrates excellent catalytic performance and high ...

The Origin of Extreme Horizontal Branch Stars [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1996
Strong mass loss on the red giant branch (RGB) can result in the formation of extreme horizontal branch (EHB) stars. The EHB stars spend most of their He core and shell burning phase at high temperatures and produce copious ultraviolet flux. They have very small hydrogen envelopes and occupy a small range in mass.

Precursor Mineral Phases of Forming Mollusk Shell Nacre: A Study of Hydrated Samples

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mineral, organic phase, and water are the essential components in mollusk shell nacre formation. Their interplay is not well understood, because the hydrated material is difficult to observe at high resolution, under close to native conditions. Forming nacre is studied using environmental and cryo‐electron microscopy and hydrated ACC phases, together ...

THE PANCHROMATIC HUBBLE ANDROMEDA TREASURY. II. TRACING THE INNER M31 HALO WITH BLUE HORIZONTAL BRANCH STARS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We attempt to constrain the shape of M31's inner stellar halo by tracing the surface density of blue horizontal branch (BHB) stars at galactocentric distances ranging from 2 kpc to 35 kpc.

A Smart Magnetically Actuated Flip‐Disc Programmable Metasurface with Ultralow Power Consumption for Real‐Time Channel Control

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study proposes a 1‐bit programmable metasurface based on flip‐disc display, named flip‐disc metasurface (FD‐MTS). This new design enables ultralow energy consumption while maintaining coding patterns. It also exhibits high scalability and multifunctional flexibility.

Luminous [O III] and [N II] from Tidally Disrupted Horizontal Branch Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We model the emission lines generated in the photoionized debris of a tidally disrupted horizontal branch (HB) star. We find that at late times, the brightest optical emission lines are [N ii] λλ6548, 6583 and [O iii] λλ4959, 5007.
