Magnetic Fields and CoronÆ in Late-Type Stars

open access: yes, 1993
In this paper we give an outline of a detailed study by Jordan and Montesinos (1991) and Montesinos & Jordan (1992) (JM and MJ hereafter respectively) on the relations between the surface magnetic fluxes B s f s , filling factors f s and coronal fields B c and Rossby numbers for a sample of late-type main-sequence stars. Some other relations, involving

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Equilibria and oscillations of magnetised neutron stars

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate equilibrium configurations and oscillation spectra of neutron stars, modelled as rotating magnetised fluid bodies in Newtonian gravity. We also explorethe idea that these model neutron stars could have dynamics analogous to rigid-bodyfree ...

What can magnetic early B-type stars tell us about early B-type stars in general?

open access: yes, 2016
Some magnetic early B-type stars display Hα emission originating in their Centrifugal Magnetospheres (CMs). To determine the rotational and magnetic properties necessary for the onset of emission, we analyzed a large spectropolarimetric dataset for a ...

The Chemical Composition of Late Type Stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1974
A discussion is given of the chemical composition of the atmospheres of various types of late type peculiar stars and their compositions are compared with those of normal K and M stars. The groups considered include CN, CH, Ba, S, C, R CrB and HdC stars.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Modelling and observations of molecules in discs around young stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This thesis contains a study of molecules within circumstellar discs around young stars. Firstly, the chemistry of a disc around a young, Class 0 protostar is modelled.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Magnetic fields in A stars besides Ap stars

open access: yes, 2014
I review ongoing efforts to understand the incidence of magnetism in intermediate-mass stars that are different from the magnetic Ap stars. This includes the search for magnetic fields in chemically peculiar stars of the Am and HgMn types as well as in ...
