Rotation: a fundamental parameter of massive stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1997
Massive stars are rapid rotators. Equatorial rotation velocities span the range vrot = 100–400 km s−1, with B stars rotating closest to their break-up speed vcrit (Howarth et al. 1997). During the last decade, many observations have revealed unusual surface abundances that may require additional internal mixing (beyond that of simple convection and ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Zams Rotational Velocities of be Stars

open access: yes, 2005
We show that Be stars belong to a high velocity tail of a single B-type star rotational velocity distribution in the main sequence (MS). We studied 127 galactic field Be stars and obtained their true equatorial velocity at the ZAMS using models of stellar evolution with rotation.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

On the Nature of Rotation Period Variability of Magnetic Stars

open access: yes, 2017
The magnetic chemically peculiar (mCP) stars of the upper main sequence exhibit periodic light, magnetic, radio, and spectroscopic variations that can be adequately explained by a model of a rigidly rotating magnetized star with persistent surface ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Oscillations of rotating neutron stars [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1991
AbstractWe use a perturbation technique to compute the rotational corrections to the non-radial oscillation spectrum of a realistic neutron-star model. We compute, to first order in the rotation rate, the corrections to the normal mode eigenfrequencies and eigenfunctions.

Remote Assessment of Ataxia Severity in SCA3 Across Multiple Centers and Time Points

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a genetically defined ataxia. The Scale for Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) is a clinician‐reported outcome that measures ataxia severity at a single time point. In its standard application, SARA fails to capture short‐term fluctuations, limiting its sensitivity in trials.

Existence of rotating magnetic stars

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 2019
We consider a star as a compressible fluid subject to gravitational and magnetic forces. This leads to an Euler-Poisson system coupled to a magnetic field, which may be regarded as an MHD model together with gravity. The star executes steadily rotating motion about a fixed axis.
