Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The interaction effect of mixing starter cultures on homemade natural yogurt’s pH and viscosity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Studies, 2017
Dairy yogurts are common food products consumed by people all over the world. Due to the simple process, many people have made their own natural yogurt at home.

Comparison characteristics of fresh cheese made with kombucha inoculum and traditional starter [PDF]

open access: yesActa Periodica Technologica, 2019
The quality of fresh cheese produced with the addition of traditional starter culture and kombucha inoculum have been investigated in this study. Fresh cheese was produced from milk with 3% fat content. The traditional starter culture FD-DVS XPL-

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Optimization of Enset Fermentation in the Production of Kocho Using Response Surface Methodology

open access: yesActa Universitatis Cibiniensis. Series E: Food Technology, 2018
Response surface methodology (RSM) was used for optimization of enset fermentation process. Two numerical (time and amount of starter culture) and one categorical variable (types of starter strain) was used for evaluation of sensory quality of kocho. The

Galacto-oligosaccharides formation during manufacture of different varieties of yogurt. Stability through storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) have interest in the food industry due to their recognized functional properties. In this work, we studied the effect of a commercial β-galactosidase enzyme from Kluyveromyces lactis (YNL-2, GODO) and Lactobacillus ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.
