In this paper, an optimum design for a single-phase line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor with respect to efficiency, maximum torque, and starting torque is proposed. The design variables, objective functions, and constraints are selected for this optimum design, which is divided into three steps.

Measurement and evaluation of DC motor starting torque
2017 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2017 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe), 2017The paper deals with the measurement and evaluation of starting torque of a DC motor. The torque is estimated from an actual motor speed during starting with the Kalman filter. The actual speed is measured with an incremental rotary encoder. The main aim of this paper is a determination of correct setting of all parameters in Kalman recursive algorithm

Transient starting torques in induction motors
Electrical Engineering, 1940A transient fundamental-frequency torque is shown to occur in the starting of all induction motors. For full-voltage starting on a general-purpose squirrel-cage motor, this torque may be as high as two or three times the pull-out torque. A consideration of such torques is particularly advisable for cases where induction motors are started and stopped ...

Soft Starting of Induction Motor with Torque Control
2008 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2008This paper presents a simple technique based on stator flux estimation to control the electromagnetic torque of the induction motor during soft starting. The inherent problems related to pure integration of the back electromagnetic force to estimate the stator flux are minimized using the low pass filter approach.
