Prospective assessment of psychophysiological risk factors for PTSD

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Psychotraumatology, 2012
Rationale/statement of the problem : There is an urgent need to develop biological and behavioral predictors of PTSD risk/resilience in individuals with high trauma exposure, such as active military duty. First, we will briefly review psychophysiological

Open(G)PIAS: An Open-Source Solution for the Construction of a High-Precision Acoustic Startle Response Setup for Tinnitus Screening and Threshold Estimation in Rodents

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2019
The modulation of the acoustic startle reflex (ASR) by a pre-stimulus called pre-pulse inhibition (PPI, for gap of silence pre-stimulus: GPIAS) is a versatile tool to, e.g., estimate hearing thresholds or identify subjective tinnitus percepts in rodents.

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Startle sign events induced by mechanical manipulation during surgery for neuroma localization: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology
Background Chronic pain from peripheral neuromas is difficult to manage and often requires surgical excision, though intraoperative identification of neuromas can be challenging due to anatomical ambiguity.

Startle-Induced Epileptic Spasms: A Clinical and Video-EEG Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2022
ObjectiveThis study aimed to delineate the detailed characteristics of startle-induced epileptic spasms (ES) and explore the brain regions where startle-induced ES originated.MethodsAmong 581 patients with ES registered in our database, 30 were diagnosed

Startling speech: eliciting prepared speech using startling auditory stimulus [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2014
Speech research has recently seen a good deal of activity surrounding forward models (Tian and Poeppel, 2012; Pickering and Garrod, 2013; Scott, 2013), expanding on a long tradition of work in preprogramming of speech motor plans (e.g., Lashley, 1951; Keele, 1981; Klapp, 2003).

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.
