Review of Thermally Activated Twisted Coiled Polymer Actuators: A Materials Science Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally activated twisted and coiled polymer actuators (TCPAs) combine lightweight design, large deformation, and scalable fabrication for soft robotic and wearable applications. This review connects polymer structure, processing history, helix geometry, and thermomechanical characterization to actuator performance, highlighting current challenges in

Postnatal environment affects auditory development and sensorimotor gating in a rat model for autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
The homozygous Cntnap2 knockout (KO) rat is a well-established genetic model for neurodevelopmental disorders, exhibiting core features of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including impaired sensory processing and sensorimotor gating.

Startle Latency as a Potential Marker for Amygdala-Mediated Hyperarousal

open access: yes, 2023
BACKGROUND: Fear-related disorders are characterized by hyperexcitability in reflexive circuits and maladaptive associative learning mechanisms. The startle reflex is suited to investigate both processes, either by probing it under baseline conditions or

Neural correlates of sensorimotor gating: A metabolic positron emission tomography study in awake rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2014
Impaired sensorimotor gating occurs in neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and can be measured using the prepulse inhibition (PPI) paradigm of the acoustic startle response.

Role of Liquid Composition in the Transient Liquid Assisted Growth of Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7‐δ Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The Y supersaturation in the [Ba‐Cu(I/II)‐O] transient liquid composition is the driving force toward YBCO nucleation and growth in TLAG. Tuning the initial (Ba:Cu) molar ratio in the ink composition determines the YBCO epitaxial nucleation through supersaturation control.

Solvent‐Free Thermal Defect Engineering in Molecular Frameworks With Volatile Linkers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal removal of neutral volatile linkers enables precise and solvent‐free generation of metal vacancies in MOFs. This strategy affords redox‐stable, coordinatively unsaturated FeII sites with tunable spin, ligand coordination, and catalytic behavior. The approach offers a general route to design defect‐functional materials through local coordination

Melatonin reduces arousal and startle responsiveness without influencing startle habituation or affective startle modulation in young women

open access: yes, 2008
Melatonin has been suggested to affect human emotion, but conflicting evidence exists. Therefore, we tested the effect of a single dose of a 4 mg prolonged release formulation of melatonin on a biologically based model of emotional processing.

2D Co‐Mo‐Hydroxide‐Based Multifunctional Material for the Development of H2‐Based Clean Energy Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
2D α‐Co(OH)2 interleaved with Mo species displays an appealing dual functionality for the production and use of green hydrogen.Mo incorporation greatly benefits the electrochemical behaviour in Oxygen Evolution Reaction for H2 production, while the magnetocaloric response at liquid H2 temperature paves the way for alternative cryogenic refrigerants ...
