Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

State estimation from pair of conjugate qudits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We show that, for $N$ parallel input states, an anti-linear map with respect to a specific basis is essentially a classical operator. We also consider the information contained in phase-conjugate pairs $|\phi > |\phi^*>$, and prove that there is more ...

Estimating the postmeasurement state [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2003
We study generalized measurements (POVM measurements) on a single d-level quantum system which is in a completely unknown pure state, and derive the best estimate of the post-measurement state. The mean post-measuremement estimation fidelity of a generalized measurement is obtained and related to the operation fidelity of the device.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Frequency Tracking and Parameter Estimation for Robust Quantum State-Estimation

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper we consider the problem of tracking the state of a quantum system via a continuous measurement. If the system Hamiltonian is known precisely, this merely requires integrating the appropriate stochastic master equation. However, even a small

Beating noise with abstention in state estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We address the problem of estimating pure qubit states with non-ideal (noisy) measurements in the multiple-copy scenario, where the data consists of a number N of identically prepared qubits.

Distributed State Estimation for Bilinear Power System Models Based on Weighted Least Absolute Value

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Accurate, scalable, and outlier-robust state estimation (SE) is critical for large AC power systems with mixed SCADA and PMU measurements. This paper proposes D-BSE-L1, a distributed robust state estimator for the bilinear AC model.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...
