Static and dynamic bending strength of the leg

International Journal of Crashworthiness, 1998
Abstract This study evaluates the relative contribution of bending moment and axial compressive force during static and dynamic loading of the tibia/fibula complex. The efficacy of the Tibia Index, a combined stress analysis for predicting leg injury in automobile crashes, is also determined.

Static Fatigue of Optical Fibers in Bending

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
While delayed fracture, or static fatigue, of optical fibers is well known, it is not well understood, and the prediction of the time to failure under a given set of conditions can be problematic. Unlike short term fracture, which is quite well understood and quantified in terms of the theory of linear elastic fracture mechanics, the long term strength

Static Model of Flexible Pneumatic Bending Joint

2006 9th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision, 2006
Flexible pneumatic bending joint is a new type of joint based on FPA, which can be adopted in multi-fingered dexterous hand design. The changing of average radius and shell thickness of bending joint during movement are analyzed, which implies that the average radius is almost invariable while the shell thickness changes obviously.

Surface Effect on the Elastic Behavior of Static Bending Nanowires

Nano Letters, 2008
The surface effect from surface stress and surface elasticity on the elastic behavior of nanowires in static bending is incorporated into Euler-Bernoulli beam theory via the Young-Laplace equation. Explicit solutions are presented to study the dependence of the surface effect on the overall Young's modulus of nanowires for three different boundary ...

Static Bending Strain in Stranded Conductor

Journal of the Structural Division, 1970
The analytic solution for static bending in stranded conductors is derived for the following cases of conductor supports: (1) Conductors with and without armor rod reinforcement; (2) conventional suspension clamps with bell mouths; and (3) unequal sag angles on either side.

Static and Dynamic Bending Responses of the Human Cervical Spine

Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 1998
The quasi-static and dynamic bending responses of the human mid-lower cervical spine were determined using cadaver intervertebral joints fixed at the base to a six-axis load cell. Flexion bending moment was applied to the superior end of the specimen using an electrohydraulic piston.

The effect of static in vivo bending on the murine intervertebral disc

The Spine Journal, 2001
Intervertebral disc cell function in vitro has been linked to features of the local environment that can be related to deformation of the extracellular matrix. Epidemiologic data suggest that certain regimens of spinal loading accelerate disc degeneration in vivo.

Bending of Composite Plates under Static and Dynamic Loading

International Applied Mechanics, 2005
The authors consider a problem on stationary bending of a plane elastic system of joint rectangular plates which differ by mechanical properties of materials and boundary conditions. A method of solution is proposed. It is based on the application of approximation approaches combined with generalization of the force method.
