Measurement and Calibration of the Discrete Element Parameters of Coated Delinted Cotton Seeds

open access: yesAgriculture, 2022
To simulate the interactions between a pneumatic cotton precision seed-metering device and coated delinted cotton seeds accurately, physical and simulation experiments based on a rotating drum apparatus were combined to calibrate the discrete element ...

Observation of contact angle hysteresis due to inhomogeneous electric fields

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2021
Wetting of surfaces can be affected by surface roughness, presence of surface chemical defects, or by electric fields. Here, the authors perform electrowetting experiments on microstriped electrodes and show that the droplet’s static contact angle ...

Dynamics of nanoscale droplets on moving surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We use molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the dynamic wetting of nanoscale water droplets on moving surfaces. The density and hydrogen bonding profiles along the direction normal to the surface are reported, and the width of the water ...

Surface Characterisation of PEEK and Dentin, Treated with Atmospheric Non-Thermal PDD Plasma, Applicable for Dental Chair-Side Procedures

open access: yesPlasma, 2021
This study investigates the suitability of Piezoelectric Direct Discharge Plasma as a tool for wetting behaviour modification of PEEK and dentin, and compares the results of this method with low-pressure plasma treatment and phosphoric acid etching ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Effects of Friction Plate Hardness and Surface Orientation on the Frictional Properties of Cereal Grain

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science, 2020
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the friction plate hardness and surface orientation of a friction plate on the angle and coefficient of static friction of cereal kernels.

A Superhydrophobic Coating : Fluorophilic Silica Nanoparticle-Doped Teflon Films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Coatings prepared from a suspension of fluoroalkyl-silane modified silica nanoparticles (FNPs) in a solution containing Teflon AF 2400 show wetting properties that depend on composition and the method of film formation.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Biomimetic Approach for the Elaboration of Highly Hydrophobic Surfaces: Study of the Links between Morphology and Wettability

open access: yesBiomimetics, 2021
This investigation of morphology-wetting links was performed using a biomimetic approach. Three natural leaves’ surfaces were studied: two bamboo varieties and Ginkgo Biloba.
