Low Q 2 boundary conditions for DGLAP equations dictated by quantum statistical mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We discuss the role of quantum statistical mechanics in the description of the parton distribution functions in the proton. It provides the low Q 2 boundary conditions for DGLAP equations in terms of Fermi–Dirac and Bose–Einstein functions of the ...

Ergodic hypothesis in classical statistical mechanics

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ensino de Física
An updated discussion on physical and mathematical aspects of the ergodic hypothesis in classical equilibrium statistical mechanics is presented. Then a practical attitude for the justification of the microcanonical ensemble is indicated.

BEC IN NONEXTENSIVE STATISTICAL MECHANICS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics B, 2000
We discuss the Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) for an ideal gas of bosons in the framework of Tsallis's nonextensive statistical mechanics. We study the corrections to the st and ard BEC formulas due to a weak nonextensivity of the system. In particular, we consider three cases in the D-dimensional space: the homogeneous gas, the gas in a harmonic ...

Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

Matrix inequalities in statistical mechanics

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2004
The main results of this paper are a straightforward proof of the thermodynamic inequality and a derivation of the equivalence of this inequality to the Peierls-Bogolyubov inequality.

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

On the Simplification of Statistical Mechanics for Space Plasmas

open access: yes, 2017
Space plasmas are frequently described by kappa distributions. Non-extensive statistical mechanics involves the maximization of the Tsallis entropic form under the constraints of canonical ensemble, considering also a dyadic formalism between the ...

Statistical mechanics of dynamical system identification

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Recovering dynamical equations from observed noisy data is the central challenge of system identification. We develop a statistical mechanics approach to analyze sparse equation discovery algorithms, which typically balance data fit and parsimony via ...

The statistical mechanics of Hawking radiation

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
Hawking radiation and black hole thermodynamics are well understood in the frameworks of quantum field theory and general relativity, with contemporary extensions in string theory, AdS/CFT, and loop quantum gravity. However, an open question remains: Can

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.
