KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...

A Differential-Geometric Approach to Quantum Ignorance Consistent with Entropic Properties of Statistical Mechanics

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
In this paper, we construct the metric tensor and volume for the manifold of purifications associated with an arbitrary reduced density operator ρS. We also define a quantum coarse-graining (CG) to study the volume where macrostates are the manifolds of ...

The Statistical Physics of Athermal Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
At the core of equilibrium statistical mechanics lies the notion of statistical ensembles: a collection of microstates, each occurring with a given a priori probability that depends only on a few macroscopic parameters such as temperature, pressure ...

Deformation of Crystals: Connections with Statistical Physics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We give a bird's-eye view of the plastic deformation of crystals aimed at the statistical physics community, as well as a broad introduction to the statistical theories of forced rigid systems aimed at the plasticity community. Memory effects in magnets,

Stochastic Spatial Models in Ecology: A Statistical Physics Approach [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of statistical physics, 2017
Ecosystems display a complex spatial organization. Ecologists have long tried to characterize them by looking at how different measures of biodiversity change across spatial scales. Ecological neutral theory has provided simple predictions accounting for

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Basin stability for chimera states

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Chimera states, namely complex spatiotemporal patterns that consist of coexisting domains of spatially coherent and incoherent dynamics, are investigated in a network of coupled identical oscillators.

A Physicist’s View on Partial 3D Shape Matching

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2023
A new algorithm is presented to compute nonrigid, possibly partial comparisons of shapes defined by unstructured triangulations of their surfaces.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Entropies for severely contracted configuration space

open access: yesHeliyon, 2015
We demonstrate that dual entropy expressions of the Tsallis type apply naturally to statistical–mechanical systems that experience an exceptional contraction of their configuration space.
