On the Derivation of power-law distributions within standard statistical mechanics

open access: yes, 2004
We show that within classical statistical mechanics it is possible to naturally derive power law distributions which are of Tsallis type. The only assumption is that microcanonical distributions have to be separable from of the total system energy, which

Basroparib inhibits YAP‐driven cancers by stabilizing angiomotin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Basroparib, a selective tankyrase inhibitor, suppresses Wnt signaling and attenuates YAP‐driven oncogenic programs by stabilizing angiomotin. It promotes AMOT–YAP complex formation, enforces cytoplasmic YAP sequestration, inhibits YAP/TEAD transcription, and sensitizes YAP‐active cancers, including KRAS‐mutant colorectal cancer, to MEK inhibition.

Powerful Statistical Inference for Nested Data Using Sufficient Summary Statistics

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2018
Hierarchically-organized data arise naturally in many psychology and neuroscience studies. As the standard assumption of independent and identically distributed samples does not hold for such data, two important problems are to accurately estimate group ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

A cautionary note on the use of the Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) in classification designs with and without within-subject factors

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
A number of statistical textbooks recommend using an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to control for the effects of extraneous factors that might influence the dependent measure of interest. However, it is not generally recognized that serious problems of

Predicted and Verified Deviations from Zipf's law in Ecology of Competing Products

open access: yes, 2011
Zipf's power-law distribution is a generic empirical statistical regularity found in many complex systems. However, rather than universality with a single power-law exponent (equal to 1 for Zipf's law), there are many reported deviations that remain ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

A Statistical Power Comparison from Multivariate and Univariate Latent Growth Models with Incomplete Data

open access: yesAxioms
Latent growth modeling (LGM) is widely used to examine group differences in developmental trajectories in educational research. With multiple outcomes of interest, a multiple-domain latent growth model (MDLGM) can be applied to account for associations ...

Repeated Measures Correlation

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2017
Repeated measures correlation (rmcorr) is a statistical technique for determining the common within-individual association for paired measures assessed on two or more occasions for multiple individuals.

Estimation of between-Cow Variability in Nutrient Digestion of Lactating Dairy Cows Fed Corn-Based Diets

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
The objective of this study was to estimate cow variability that can be used to determine the optimal sample size for digestibility trials using lactating dairy cows.
