Pre-swirl Stator and Propeller/Stator Efficiency

Day 1 Tue, September 17, 1991, 1991
A new method for improving the propeller efficiency due to locating a pre-swirl stator array has been developed by applying linearized lifting surface theory. This method has been applied on general stators and in particular stators of low aspect ratio. The obtained results of the stator 1nduced velocity are in exact agreement with the low aspect ratio

Analysis of Stator-Stator Clocking in a Transonic Turbine

Volume 6: Turbo Expo 2007, Parts A and B, 2007
Clocking, i.e. the relative pitch-wise positioning between two successive vanes with the same amount of airfoils, has been demonstrated to bring potential aero-thermal benefits in several recent studies. Indeed, across a vane pitch, a variation of both time-averaged and time-resolved quantities is induced. In order to advance the knowledge on clocking,

A Comparison of the Flow Structures and Losses Within Vaned and Vaneless Stators for Radial Turbines

open access: yesJournal of Turbomachinery, 2009
This paper details the numerical analysis of different vaned and vaneless radial inflow turbine stators. Selected results are presented from a test program carried out to determine performance differences between the radial turbines with vaned stators ...

Failure analysis of general stator and uniform wall thickness stator

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2018
Abstract Stator lining of positive displacement motor (PDM) is prone to generate thermal fatigue failure because of viscoelastic hysteresis of the rubber material. Based on the thermo-mechanical coupling modeling and rubber material testing, finite element method was used to study the effect of environment temperature and thermo-viscoelastic ...

An analytical investigation of stator lean on rotor–stator interaction noise

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2014
This paper concentrates on the noise reduction effect of stator lean in rotor–stator interaction. The compressor with a serial stator-blade lean angle has been employed to acoustically test and numerically calculate. The experiment results show that stator-leaned positive has better effect on noise reduction than leaned negative; the tone noise is ...

Development of Laminated Seals for Stator-Stator Sealing in Gas Turbines

Volume 5C: Heat Transfer, 2015
This paper describes the development of laminated seals for stator-stator sealing in gas turbines. Cloth seals were introduced as stator-stator seals in the 1990’s and resulted in a significant improvement in sealing performance over the rigid seals then in service.

Experimental research on the effects of stator trailing edge blowing with variable stator on the reduction of stator/rotor interaction noise

7th AIAA Flow Control Conference, 2014
This paper presents a continue research work of last year which introduced a first experimental research work [1]. Compared with previous work, the difference of this research is that the effects of the different stator angles with blowing and without blowing are studied. In this research the pressure of blowing flow is stable at 0.8MPa.

Intensification of convective heat transfer in a stator–rotor–stator spinning disc reactor

AIChE Journal, 2015
A stator–rotor–stator spinning disc reactor is presented, which aims at intensification of convective heat‐transfer rates for chemical conversion processes. Single phase fluid‐rotor heat‐transfer coefficients hr are presented for rotor angular velocities rad s−1 and volumetric throughflow rates m3s−1.

Detection of stator and rotor faults in a DFIG based on the stator reactive power analysis

IECON 2014 - 40th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2014
This paper presents a new online diagnostic approach for the detection of stator and rotor inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) faults in doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) for wind power applications. The proposed technique is based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the instantaneous stator reactive power.

Reduction of Compressor Stator Endwall Losses Through the Use of Bowed Stators

Volume 1: Turbomachinery, 1995
The growth of suction surface corner separation in multistage compressor stators is shown to limit the pressure rise capability of core flow stator sections, which would otherwise remain unseparated at the same incident flow. Three dimensional CFD modeling of the stator flowfield has led to the development of “bowed” stator shapes which are predicted ...
