Numerical simulation of steady-state and non-steady-state modes of a switching discharge in vacuum
This paper presents the results of a two-dimensional kinetic simulation of the switching of a vacuum gap by the cathode plasma flare. It is shown that, depending on the magnitude of the current passed through the vacuum gap, the gap can be switched in both a steady-state mode, in which the spark turns into a quasi-steady-state arc, and a non-steady ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Steady-State Disturbance-Rejection Controllability for LTI Systems with Rigid-Body Mode
Controllability metrics based on system Gramians have been widely adopted to provide quantitative measures of the degree of controllability (DoC) and the disturbance rejection capability (DoDR) of dynamical systems.

Mixed-mode growth of a multicomponent precipitate in the quasi-steady state regime
An exact analytical solution of the Fick’s second law was developed and applied to the mixed-mode growth of a multicomponent ellipsoidal precipitate growing with constant eccentricities in the quasi-stationary regime. The solution is exact if the nominal

Theory of the spatial structure of non-linear lasing modes
A self-consistent integral equation is formulated and solved iteratively which determines the steady-state lasing modes of open multi-mode lasers. These modes are naturally decomposed in terms of frequency dependent biorthogonal modes of a linear wave ...

This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Distributed entanglement induced by dissipative bosonic media
We describe a scheme with analytic result that allows to generate steady-state entanglement for two atoms over a dissipative bosonic medium. The resonant coupling between the mediating bosonic mode and cavity modes produces three collective atomic decay ...
