KINEMATICS OF STELLAR POPULATIONS IN POSTSTARBURST GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
Post-starburst galaxies host a population of early-type stars (A or F), but simultaneously lack indicators of ongoing star formation such as OII emission. Two distinct stellar populations have been identified in these systems: a young post-starburst population superimposed on an older host population.

The Stellar Kinematics of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
The kinematic properties of elliptical galaxies are summarized. New developments are discussed in four areas: (i) the Faber-Jackson relation and the role of second parameters (ii) the luminosity-rotation relation (iii) the figures of elliptical galaxies and (iv) the mass-to-light ratio as a function of radius.

Local stellar kinematics from Hipparcos data [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1998
(shortened) From a kinematically unbiased subsample of the Hipparcos catalogue we have redetermined as a function of colour the kinematics of main-sequence stars. The stars' mean heliocentric velocity nicely follows the asymmetric drift relation, except for stars blueward of B-V=0.1. Extrapolating to zero dispersion yields for the velocity of the Sun w.

Investigation of the Stellar Population of Several Polar Ring Galaxies

open access: yesGalaxies, 2016
We present results of our investigation of two multi-spin galaxies which were taken from the catalog of polar ring galaxies. All of them possess nucleus-like knots.

Stellar kinematics

open access: yes, 2021
Integral field spectroscopic (IFS) surveys have revolutionised our understanding of the stellar dynamics in external galaxies at z~0. Studies of gas-phase dynamics and deep slit-based spectroscopy at high redshift show that galaxies have experienced significant dynamical evolution since z~1.

Oort Constants and Local Stellar Kinematics from GCNS

open access: yesUniverse, 2023
Oort constants and local kinematics are vital parameters with which to study the structure and dynamics of the Milky Way. When GCNS was published, it provided a clean sample of stars in the solar vicinity, which gives us an ideal tool with which to ...

Resolved SPLASH Chemodynamics in Andromeda’s PHAT Stellar Halo and Disk: On the Nature of the Inner Halo along the Major Axis

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
Stellar kinematics and metallicity are key to exploring formation scenarios for galactic disks and halos. In this work, we characterized the relationship between kinematics and photometric metallicity along the line of sight to M31's disk.

oMEGACat. I. MUSE Spectroscopy of 300,000 Stars within the Half-light Radius of ω Centauri

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Omega Centauri ( ω Cen) is the most massive globular cluster of the Milky Way and has been the focus of many studies that reveal the complexity of its stellar populations and kinematics.

Kinematic signatures of triaxial stellar systems [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1993
Analytic dynamic models of triaxial stellar systems, such as elliptical galaxies and galactic bulges, can be used to calculate the velocity fields of systems in a wide range of potentials without the need for orbit integrations. We present results from a first application of these models, in the form of velocity fields projected onto the sky.

Wrinkles in Time. I. Rapid Rotators Found in High-eccentricity Orbits

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Recent space-based missions have ushered in a new era of observational astronomy, where high-cadence photometric light curves for thousands to millions of stars in the solar neighborhood can be used to test and apply stellar age-dating methods, including
