Stem Cell Transplantation

open access: yes, 2009
Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is associated with profound compromises in host defenses. The patterns of immune compromise change over time. Infections are an important cause of serious morbidity and pose substantial threats to life. Thus, the challenges of infection facing the transplant clinician are both myriad and dynamic.

Thrombosis in stem cell transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesHematology, 2012
Hemostatic changes and thrombotic events are frequent in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. Arterial and venous thromboses are major causes of morbidity and mortality. Thrombotic complications can be classified into four groups including: catheter-related thrombosis, venous thromboembolic (VTE) events, sinusoidal obstructive syndrome (SOS ...

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Source and Storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT), has been accepted as a feasible treatment option that prolongs survival in hematological malignancies. Stem cell choice during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation can differ according to the experience ...

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

Prognostic role of docetaxel-induced suppression of free testosterone serum levels in metastatic prostate cancer patients

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
To date, only few data concerning the biologically active, free form of testosterone (FT) are available in metastatic prostate cancer (mPC) and the impact of FT on disease, therapy and outcome is largely unknown.

Whole Exome Sequencing to Estimate Alloreactivity Potential Between Donors and Recipients in Stem Cell Transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Whole exome sequencing was performed on HLA-matched stem cell donors and transplant recipients to measure sequence variation contributing to minor histocompatibility antigen differences between the two. A large number of nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms were identified in each of the nine unique donor-recipient pairs tested. This variation

Infectious diseases in allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation: prevention and prophylaxis strategy guidelines 2016

open access: yesAnnals of Hematology, 2016
Infectious complications after allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HCT) remain a clinical challenge. This is a guideline provided by the AGIHO (Infectious Diseases Working Group) of the DGHO (German Society for Hematology and ...

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Causal Inference with Truncation-by-Death and Unmeasured Confounding [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Clinical studies sometimes encounter truncation by death, rendering outcomes undefined. Statistical analysis based solely on observed survivors may give biased results because the characteristics of survivors differ between treatment groups. By principal stratification, the survivor average causal effect was proposed as a causal estimand defined in ...

Validation and refinement of the Disease Risk Index for allogeneic stem cell transplantation.

open access: yesBlood, 2014
Because the outcome of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is predominantly influenced by disease type and status, it is essential to be able to stratify patients undergoing HCT by disease risk.
