A New Type of Pre-Aeration Stepped Spillway
Aiming to increase energy dissipation and prevent the cavitation potential of a traditional stepped spillway (TSS) at large unit discharges, a kind of pre-aeration stepped spillway, called a hydraulic-jump-stepped spillway (HJSS), is introduced in this ...

History of stepped channels and spillways: a rediscovery of the “wheel” [PDF]
Recently, spillways with a stepped profile have regained interest and favor among design engineers to pass flood waters over the dams. The stepped geometry enhances the energy dissipation above the spillway and reduces the size of a downstream stilling basin.

Air-water flows on stepped spillways with inclined steps [PDF]
Stepped spillways have been constructed worldwide and the overflow is characterised by intense turbulent dissipation and strong self-aeration. The current study investigated experimentally the two-phase flow properties on stepped chutes equipped with inclined downward steps.

Atomic layer deposition is used to conformally surface engineer polymeric membranes to fabricate inorganic–organic hybrid membranes. These membranes have exceptionally strong attraction toward water even in high oil containing emulsions, which leads to an extremely strong hydration layer at the interface.

Re-Aeration on Stepped Spillways with Special Consideration of Entrained and Entrapped Air
As with most high-velocity free-surface flows, stepped spillway flows become self-aerated when the drop height exceeds a critical value. Due to the step-induced macro-roughness, the flow field becomes more turbulent than on a similar smooth-invert chute.

Determination of Discharge Flow in Unit Width for the Distinction of Nappe and Skimming Flow in Stepped Spillway Using Flow 3d (Case Study: Siah Bishe Dam) [PDF]
One of the major challenges in dam engineering is the design of the discharge flow of the stepped spillway. The rate of energy dissipation in downstream currents is higher than that of skimming currents.

A review of accidents and failures of stepped spillways and weirs [PDF]
Recent advances in technology have permitted the construction of large reservoirs and chutes. These developments have necessitated the development of new design and construction techniques, particularly with the provision of adequate flood release facilities and safe energy dissipation.

Catalytically Enhanced Near Room‐Temperature Hydrogen Sensing Using Pd‐ZnO Colloidal Crystals
Pd‐decorated ZnO colloidal crystal monolayers demonstrate excellent performance across a wide hydrogen concentration range at 33°C, with high selectivity and reproducible device fabrication. The sensors show strong responses even at low‐ppm H2 concentrations and an ultra‐low detection limit of 82 ppb, indicating their suitability for diverse hydrogen ...

Effect of the Stepped Spillway Geometry on the Flow Energy Dissipation
In this research, flume experiments were conducted on stepped weirs to investigate the effect of step shape on the energy dissipation of flow. Four configurations with a constant number of steps were considered, namely, horizontal steps, inclined steps ...
