Study on suppressing of stick-slip using dynamic vibration absorber

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
This study discussed design criteria for suppressing stick-slip using dynamic vibration absorber. First, a simplified analytical model that can quantify the effect of the dynamic vibration absorber on the occurrence and nonoccurrence conditions of stick ...

The effect of laser surface texturing to inhibit stick-slip phenomenon in sliding contact

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
Stick-slip phenomenon in some mechanical structures, especially in machine tools, should be eliminated or inhibited, otherwise the vibration will occur and the position error will inevitably be obtained. In this study, different kinds of surface textures

Thermodynamics and kinetics of boundary friction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A deterministic theory describing the behavior of an ultrathin lubricant film between two atomically-smooth solid surfaces is proposed. For the description of lubricant state the parameter of excess volume arising due to chaotization of solid medium ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Inverted stick-slip friction

open access: yes, 2003
Sliding of adhesive boundary lubricated surfaces immersed in aqueous solutions has been studied. Under certain conditions "inverted" stick-slip motion is observed where, in contrast to conventional stick-slip, the friction spikes point down rather than ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Stick‐Slip Tremor Beneath an Alpine Glacier

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
Sliding of glacial ice over its base is typically described by a frictionless or slowly deforming bed. This view is challenged by recent seismic observations of stick‐slip motion at the ice‐bed interface.

Stick-Slip Operation of the Modular Distributed Manipulator System

open access: yes, 2018
The modular distributed manipulator system (MDMS) is a novel materials handling system which is a fixed array of actuated wheels capable of inducing arbitrary motions in the plane. The wheels transport and manipulate objects that rest on the array.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Dataset on critical angular clamping speeds of fasteners

open access: yesData in Brief
This article reports on an experiment that studied the critical angular clamping speeds for fasteners using the Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The study aimed to investigate the stick-slip phenomenon, a critical
