Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Cyclogram analysis of canine gait: quantifying inter-joint coordination and clinical utility in rehabilitation

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
IntroductionCyclograms, or joint angle–angle plots, provide an intuitive representation of inter-joint coordination, yet they remain underused in canine rehabilitation.

Unusual presentation of an avulsion of the long digital extensor tendon in a dog: radiographic, computed tomographic, arthroscopic, surgical and histological findings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A long digital extensor tendon avulsion is reported in a 15-month-old intact male Great Dane with a right pelvic limb lameness of 2-week duration. The orthopedic, radiographic, computed tomographic, arthroscopic, surgical and histological findings are ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Ex vivo biomechanical investigations of combined extra- and intracapsular stabilization in canines with cranial cruciate ligament deficiency

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Intracapsular reconstruction (ICR) has long been recommended as a treatment for cranial cruciate ligament deficiency (CCLD) in dogs, but it has fallen out of favor due to its inferior long-term functional outcomes. These outcomes may be attributed to the

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.
