Forward Brillouin scattering in few-mode fibers [PDF]
Forward Brillouin scattering is an opto-mechanical effect in which two co-propagating optical fields couple with an acoustic mode in a common medium. The effect has been studied in standard optical fibers since 1985, however nearly all studies have been ...

Non-contact and label-free biomechanical imaging: Stimulated Brillouin microscopy and beyond
Brillouin microscopy based on spontaneous Brillouin scattering has emerged as a unique elastography technique because of its merit of non-contact, label-free, and high-resolution mechanical imaging of biological cell and tissue.

Cascaded forward Brillouin lasing in a chalcogenide whispering gallery mode microresonator
We report the first observation of cascaded forward stimulated Brillouin scattering in a microresonator platform. We have demonstrated 25 orders of intramodal Stokes beams separated by a Brillouin shift of 34.5 MHz at a sub-milliwatt threshold at 1550 nm.

Investigation of Brillouin scattering parameters in single mode optical fibers
The interrogation scheme for fiber optic sensor based on Brillouin scattering is represented. The application of stimulated Brillouin scattering signal formed in etalon optical fiber as reference source realized is proposed.

Fiber-Based Techniques to Suppress Stimulated Brillouin Scattering
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is the major factor that limits the maximum optical fiber output power in narrow linewidth applications, which include important fields such as passive optical networks (PONs), high-power fiber amplifiers, and lasers.

Metamaterial control of stimulated Brillouin scattering [PDF]
Using full opto-acoustic numerical simulations, we demonstrate enhancement and suppression of the SBS gain in a metamaterial comprising a subwavelength cubic array of dielectric spheres suspended in a dielectric background material. We develop a general theoretical framework and present several numerical examples using technologically important ...

Hybrid Ytterbium/Brillouin Gain Assisted Partial Mode Locking in Yb-Doped Fiber Laser
We have demonstrated experimentally and theoretically that the hybrid ytterbium/Brillouin gain can contribute to partial mode locking in the high-loss ytterbium-doped fiber laser.
