Stimulated Raman scattering

This chapter describes the application of stimulated Raman scattering as a practical method for the generation of tunable, coherent radiation. A brief theoretical discussion of the stimulated Raman effect in the steady state and transient-scattering regimes is presented.

Self-similarity in transient stimulated Raman scattering

Stimulated Raman scattering in the transient limit is an integrable system. In contrast, however, to the usual behavior in integrable systems, solitons are transient and the behavior of the system at long distances is dominated by self-similar solutions which may be found by symmetry reduction.

Inelastic light scattering has proved to be highly valuable for the study of elementary excitations of gases, liquids and solids. The parameters of the scattered radiation, e.g. frequency position, spectral band shape, degree of polarization and scattering efficiency provide detailed information on the material under consideration.

Stimulated Raman scattering in a fibre

The symmetry of rotation - vibration states of the molecule is described by group U(5). The matrix elements of stimulated Raman scattering are calculated by means of the group theory approach in fibre. The cross sections and gain coefficients of stimulated Raman scattering are given. The results are in agreement with the experimental values.

Chaos in stimulated Raman scattering

Coherent state technique and maximal Lyapunov exponent method are used for the study of deterministic chaos in a system governing stimulated Raman scattering. The influence of the external pumping on dynamics of the system is investigated. Phase portraits and FFT spectra are presented.

Stimulated Raman scattering in quartz

Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) from infrared-active phonons in quartz is discussed. The scattering is concluded to be from a different region of k space than that previously stated in the literature. The possibility of producing a broadly tunable parametric oscillator via SRS in quartz is viewed with pessimism.
