Abstract Effect of stitch density and stitch thread thickness on low-velocity impact damage of stitched composites is investigated experimentally. Physical examination on damage surfaces shows that stitches perform as crack initiators, as well as crack arrestors.

Abstract In this paper, the damage failure and behaviour of stitched composites under compression after impact (CAI) loading are experimentally investigated. This study focuses on the effect of stitch density and stitch thread thickness on the CAI strength and response of laminated composites reinforced by through-thickness stitching.

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2013
Abstract Experimental investigation is performed to study tensile properties, damage initiation and development in stitched carbon/epoxy composites subjected to tensile loading. T800SC-24kf dry preforms with tow orientation of [+45/90/−45/0 2 /+45/90 2 /−45/0]s are stitched using 200 denier Vectran® thread.

Polymer Composites
AbstractThe tensile failure mechanism of standard composites has been extensively investigated, but is not clear for stitched composites with z‐stitch method. This work systematically explored the tensile performance of the stitched composites with z‐stitch method under different stitch patterns and densities.

In this paper, we present a study on the effects of stitch density towards the accurate modeling of embroidered textile patch antennas. A detailed full-wave model is used to accurately characterize the embroidery patch antenna with different stitch densities. The model accounts for the double-layer and nonuniform nature of the embroidery pattern.

Impact of Stitch Density on Tactile Comfort Properties of Seams
AATCC Journal of Research, 2022The impact of stitch density and seam type on tactile properties of seams has been investigated. Lapped seam 1 (LSa-1) using stitch class 605 and superimposed seam (SSa-2) using stitch class 514 (ASTM 6193) were constructed with four different stitch densities, namely, stitches per inch (SPI) 10, SPI 14, SPI 18 and SPI 22, and the tactile properties ...

Plastics, Rubber and Composites, 2014
Mode II delamination properties of Vectran stitched composites were investigated, and tabbed end notch flexural specimen testing was used to prevent premature failure. The effects of stitch density and stitch thread thickness were explored, and fibre compaction due to the stitching process was also verified.

Abstract The effect of stitch density ( SD ) on fatigue life, stiffness degradation and fatigue damage mechanisms in carbon/epoxy (T800SC/XNRH6813) stitched using Vectran thread is presented in this paper. Moderately stitched composite ( SD = 0.028/mm 2 ; ‘stitched 6 × 6’) and densely stitched composite ( SD = 0.111/mm 2 ; ‘stitched 3 × 3’) are ...

Measurement improvement by high overlapping density subaperture stitching interferometry
Applied Optics, 2014The vibration-modulated subaperture stitching interferometer acquires the interferogram on the fly dynamically. With its highly improved measurement throughput, we applied the device for high overlapping density subaperture stitching interferometry to acquire hundreds of overlapping subapertures in a single phase stitching measurement.

Power spectral density (PSD) in stitching interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 2002For the optical components in high power laser system, there are some special demands, therefore, there are some peculiar needs in evaluating, for example the testing in middle frequency segment is emphasized. Considering these special demands, power spectral density (PSD) is used as one of the important evaluating parameters.
