Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Nonlinear Stochastic Adaptive Control of PEMFC Temperature Management System
To address the problem of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) temperature management under stochastic disturbances, this paper integrates a PEMFC thermal model with a water pump model and establishes a nonlinear stochastic model for ...

Filtering for a Class of Quantum Systems With Classical Stochastic Disturbances
We present filtering equations for a class of hybrid quantum-classical systems where a quantum optical cavity system is continuously disturbed by a classical linear stochastic process. Another quantum cavity system is employed to describe the classical stochastic process as an analog.

Fully 3D‐Printed Wave‐Wound Electromagnetic Motors
This work presents the first fully 3D‐printed wave‐wound electromagnetic motors, which are created using conductive nanoparticle inks, carbon‐filled nylon polymers, and surface mount components. These motors can achieve a stall torque of 7.62N·mmA−1$7.62 \nobreakspace N{\cdot }mm A^{-1}$ and efficiency of 28.2 %, which approaches the performance of ...

State Filtering for Networked Control Systems Subject to Switching Disturbances
State estimation of stochastic discrete-time linear systems subject to unknown inputs has been widely studied, but few works take into account disturbances switching between unknown inputs and constant biases.

Stochastic Improvement of Cyclic Railway Timetables [PDF]
Real-time railway operations are subject to stochastic disturbances. However, a railway timetable is a deterministic plan. Thus a timetable should be designed in such a way that it can cope with the stochastic disturbances as well as possible.
