Revisiting Online Algorithms: A Survey of Set Cover Solutions Beyond Competitive Analysis

open access: yesIEEE Access
Online algorithms are crucial for real-time decision-making and adaptability across diverse fields, such as operations research, computer science, and combinatorics. These algorithms handle data incrementally and make decisions without prior knowledge of

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Dynamic Analysis of an SICR Hepatitis C Infection Model with Stochastic Effects

open access: yesJournal of Harbin University of Science and Technology, 2023
In order to study the influence of uncertain factors on hepatitis C in reality, a randomized SICR hepatitis C model with acute and chronic infection was considered.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

A stochastic model for the dynamics of electromagnetic waves connected to each other on the mirror

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2018
The paper develops stochastic differential equations serving as the basis for derivation of master equations for microcavity photons pumped with either classic or quantized contracted fields.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Aviation industry stochastic model based on big data concept

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2018
Modern aviation industry is a complex large-scale system that includes designing, testing, production, operation, maintains services, etc. Thus, it seems reasonable to provide information logistical support throughout the life cycle of single processes ...

Stochastic Modeling of Congress [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Mathematical Sociology, 2012
We analyze the dynamics of growth of the number of congressmen supporting the resolution HR1207 to audit the Federal Reserve. The plot of the total number of co-sponsors as a function of time is of "Devil's staircase" type. The distribution of the numbers of new co-sponsors joining during a particular day (step height) follows a power law.
