Population Genetics of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) in Prince Edward Island, Canada

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) have experienced population declines across their native range. Widespread stocking has been a population recovery strategy, but there is a growing awareness that stocking may put genetic integrity at risk.

Mise en évidence de la reproduction naturelle du saumon atlantique (Salmo salar L.) dans un affluent français du Rhin par analyse génétique d'oeufs prélevés dans des frayères

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 1996

ON THE CHOICE BETWEEN THE STOCKING RATE AND TIME IN RANGE MANAGEMENT [PDF]

open access: yes
A long standing question in range management concerns the relative importance of the stocking rate versus the length of time during which animals graze a particular rangeland.

An investigation into the potential losses of fish on the filter plates at the Hodder Water Treatment Works Stocks Reservoir [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Stocks Reservoir is situated amidst the Forest of Bowland in the upper reaches of the old river valley of the Hodder. The reservoir was built in 1927 for the Fylde Water Board who primarily supplied water to Blackpool.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

REINTRODUCTION OF NOBLE CRAYFISH ASTACUS ASTACUS AFTER CRAYFISH PLAGUE IN NORWAY

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2004
The Glomma and Halden watercourses in Norway were hit by crayfish plague in 1987 and 1989. Reintroduction of the noble crayfish started in 1989 in the Glomma and in 1995 in the Halden watercourse.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Fish and macroinvertebrates in lowland drainage canals with and without grass carp [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Diploid grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella L.) were introduced to a lowland Waikato drainage canal at an initial density of 40-80 kg ha -1(83-167 fish ha -1) to control aquatic macrophytes and improve water flow.

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.
