Covariant Generalization of the Stokes Parameters*†
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1959A generalization of the classical Stokes parameters, along the lines suggested by Wolf, is given. It consists of four complex space-time correlation functions of different components of the electromagnetic field. These functions satisfy field equations identical in form to Maxwell’s equations.

Lorentzian Comments on Stokes Parameters
2003The popular Stokes statements about polarized light are interpreted in a Minkowskian language using a Lorentzian representation for the Stokes parameters and the degree of polarization. The evolution equations for Stokes parameters on a curved space-time are obtained using the parallel transport of the polarization vector along a null geodesic.

Stokes Parameters for Quantum Systems
American Journal of Physics, 1970The classical Stokes polarization parameters are extended to treat quantum systems. This is accomplished by using the semiclassical radiation theory and considering only radiation by the dipole mechanism. The identification of the Stokes parameters with the density matrix elements is noted. The Stokes parameters for a number of familiar quantum systems
