Carbonaceous particles on carbonate building stones in a simulated system

Journal of Aerosol Science, 1992
Abstract A laboratory simulation system for studying the interaction between carbonaceous particles and carbonate building stones is presented and described. Three types of building stones with the common characteristic of a carbonate matrix were used: 1) Carrara marble, 2) Travertine, 3) Trani stone.

Discrete Element Particle Modelling of Stone Masonry

2016
Circular Particle Models (PM) are a class of discrete elements which has been increasingly used for detailed analysis in rock and concrete structures. There have been few applications to masonry, but the potential of these techniques appears significant, due to their proven ability to simulate fracture processes through random particle assemblies ...

Fine particle removal from natural stone processing effluent by flocculation

Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy, 2012
In this study, the sedimentation behaviors of five different natural stones (i.e., marble and travertine suspansions) were examined by applying classical sedimentation tests. The suspensions were first characterized using electrokinetic and physical analysis techniques and then subjected to gravity and flocculation aid sedimentation tests to find the ...

Carbonaceous particles and stone damage in a laboratory exposure system

Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 1996
The interaction between carbonaceous particles and stones used in historic buildings and monuments was investigated in a laboratory exposure system. Simulation experiments were carried out in a flow chamber where temperature, relative humidity, and SO2 concentration were controlled.

Parameters of Cement Bonded Particle Boards Modified with Stone Wool Fibre

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
The contribution deals with possibilities of using waste from the production of stone wool for modification of the existing composition of cement boards . Waste - the fibres from the production of stone wool - was used as an alternative to the standardly used wooden filler (chips, sawdust).

Constant dripping wears away a stone: Fatigue damage causing particles' cracking

Journal of Power Sources, 2019
Abstract Once Li+ ions start mobilizing, the crystalline active particles will persistently endure the internal stresses, which originate from the lattice deformation and will remain until reaching a new equilibrium state. While it is still lack of the fundamental understanding on this effect although the particle cracking has been accepted as a ...

Correlation between Particle-Size Composition and Morphology of Stone Dust and Air Quality

Materials Science Forum, 2023
Currently, mining activities are mainly focused on economic efficiency and to a less extent on environmental safety. The natural environment experiences heavy impacts from mining activities. Various mining processes during the extraction of common mineral resources cause a significant increase in dust emissions.

Mulberry Particles Formed by Red Blood Cells in Human Weddelite Stones

Journal of Urology, 1983
In a series of electron microscopic studies of human urinary stones, mulberry shaped particles were observed in 5 out of 51 calcium oxalate dihydrate (COD) containing stones. The mulberries were crenation products of red blood cells which adhered to the surface of bipyramid COD crystals, followed by impregnation of the COD.

Analysis of the pick-up of crushed stone particles in a horizontal pipeline

Powder Technology, 2021
Abstract The feeder is a key component of a pneumatic conveying system, and it is the largest component that causes pressure loss. In this paper, a negative-pressure auto-feeding system was designed. Using the orthogonal design method, the effects of the airflow velocity, particle size, and feeding mass on the pick-up mass of an auto-feeding system ...

Detection and isolation of nanobacteria‐like particles from urinary stones: Long‐withheld data

International Journal of Urology, 2011
Objectives:  To report our experimental results on detection and isolation of nanobacteria‐like particles (NLP) from urinary stone samples. Methods:  From March 2001 to August 2003, 47 urinary stone samples from Japanese patients and 18 from Paraguayan patients were collected and used for compositional analysis, direct survey of NLP by scanning electron
