Experimental Study on Road Friction Variation and Stopping Distance Uncertainty using ABS Braking Data [Elektronisk resurs]

open access: yes, 2022
This paper investigates the remaining fluctuation of road friction and stopping distance when the contribution from known sources has been removed. This fluctuation can serve as uncertainty for active safety functions relying on friction estimates.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Enlarged stopping distance to improve vehicle discharge at urban signalised intersections

open access: yes, 2013
Normally, vehicles queued at an intersection reach maximum flow rate after the fourth vehicle and results in a start-up lost time. This research demonstrated that the Enlarged Stopping Distance (ESD) concept could assist in reducing the start-up time and

Parametric Sensitivity Analysis of Safe Train Interval Model Based on Relative Braking Distance

open access: yesKongzhi Yu Xinxi Jishu
The magnitude of safe intervals between virtually coupled trains derived from the safe train interval model based on relative braking distance has a great impact on the track capacity planning, infrastructure construction and vehicle design.

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Effects of laser energy and impact surface on the stopping distance in metal oxide targets laser ablation

open access: yes, 2012
International audienceThe aim of this paper is to study the effect of fluence on the propagating parameters of the plasma plume. Two complex metal oxide targets CaCu3Ti4O12 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 were studied at moderate fluences (1.1 to 2.5 J.cm-2) and at ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging
