Quality characteristics of sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L.) as influenced by processing and storage conditions

open access: yesCroatian Journal of Food Science and Technology, 2022
This study investigated the effects of blanching, drying and storage conditions on the quality characteristics of sweet potato leaves (SWPL). SWPL (unblanched and steamed blanched at 90 C for 1 min) were oven-dried (50 C for 72 hours), packaged in ...

Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Physicochemical and microbiological characteristics of ginger paste (cv. Suprabha) during storage in different packaging and temperature conditions

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture, 2016
Shelf life quality studies of ginger paste have been carried out in three packaging materials [metalized poly-propylene (MPP), polyethylene terepthalate and high density polyethylene] at two storage temperatures [room temperature (25°C) & cold room (CT) (

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effect of the Drying Method and Storage Conditions on the Quality and Content of Selected Bioactive Compounds of Green Legume Vegetables

open access: yesMolecules
This study aimed to determine the effect of the drying method (freeze-drying, air-drying), storage period (12 months), and storage conditions (2–4 °C, 18–22 °C) applied to two legume species: green beans and green peas.
