Energy Storage in a Hamiltonian System in Partial Contact with a Heat Bath
To understand the mechanism allowing for the long-term storage of excess energy in proteins, we study a Hamiltonian system consisting of several coupled pendula in partial contact with a heat bath.

Posttranslational modifications of GLUT4 affect its subcellular localization and translocation [PDF]
The facilitative glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) is expressed in adipose and muscle and plays a vital role in whole body glucose homeostasis. In the absence of insulin, only ~1% of cellular GLUT4 is present at the plasma membrane, with the vast ...

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Iron transfer and storage proteins [PDF]
Željezo je vrlo bitan element za temeljne metaboličke procese. S obzirom na činjenicu da je neophodan za niz funkcija, organizmi ga moraju pohranjivati na način da bude netoksičan i brzo dostupan.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) of the genera Steinernema and Heterorhabditis are parasites which kill and reproduce within insects. While both have life cycles centred around their developmentally arrested, nonfeeding and stress tolerant infective ...

Effects of various salt purity levels on lipid oxidation and sensory characteristics of ground turkey and pork [PDF]
Salt use in meat products is changing. Consumers desire sea salt which may also contain trace metals and the government is demanding a reduction in sodium.

Translational cooling and storage of protonated proteins in an ion trap at subkelvin temperatures
Gas-phase multiply charged proteins have been sympathetically cooled to translational temperatures below 1 K by Coulomb interaction with laser-cooled barium ions in a linear ion trap.
