Tensorial conservation law for nematic polymers [PDF]
We derive the "conservation law" for nematic polymers in tensorial form valid for quadrupolar orientational order in contradistinction to the conservation law in the case of polar orientational order.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Anionic surfactants are commonly used as detergents and emulsifiers. However, these compounds are potent skin irritants. In this study, we evaluated the effect of the alkyl structure of anionic surfactants on the skin barrier function using the ...

Ground state of dipolar hard spheres confined in channels
We investigate the ground state of a classical two-dimensional system of hard-sphere dipoles confined between two hard walls. Using lattice sum minimization techniques we reveal that at fixed wall separations, a first-order transition from a vacuum to a ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Sterol carrier protein-2 (SCP-2) and SCP-x are ubiquitous proteins found in all mammalian tissues. Although both proteins interact with fatty acids, their relative contributions to the uptake, oxidation, and esterification of straight-chain (palmitic ...

An assessment of organic solvent based equilibrium partitioning methods for predicting the bioconcentration behavior of perfluorinated sulfonic acids, carboxylic acids, and sulfonamides [PDF]
SPARC, KOWWIN, and ALOGPS octanol-water partitioning (log K~ow~) and distribution (log D) constants were calculated for all C~1~ through C~8~ and the straight chain C~9~ through C~15~ perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (PFSAs) and carboxylic acids (PFCAs ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Anti-Allergic Activity of Monoacylated Ascorbic Acid 2-Glucosides
2-O-α-d-Glucopyranosyl-l-ascorbic acid (AA-2G) is one of the stable ascorbic acid (AA) derivatives known as provitamin C agents. We have previously synthesized two types of monoacylated derivatives of AA-2G, 6-O-acyl-2-O-α-d-glucopyranosyl-l-ascorbic ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
