Phytanoyl-CoA hydroxylase: recognition of 3-methyl-branched acyl-CoAs and requirement for GTP or ATP and Mg2+ in addition to its known hydroxylation cofactors

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2000
Phytanoyl-CoA hydroxylase is a peroxisomal α-oxidation enzyme that catalyzes the 2-hydroxylation of 3-methyl-branched acyl-CoAs. A polyhistidine-tagged human phytanoyl-CoA hydroxylase was expressed in E.

End-to-end distance vector distribution with fixed end orientations for the wormlike chain model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We find exact expressions for the end-to-end distance vector distribution function with fixed end orientations for the wormlike chain model. This function in Fourier-Laplace space adopts the form of infinite continued fractions, which emerges upon ...

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Theoretical study on the movements of bubbles

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
The radial and translational motions of multiple interacting spherical bubbles are obtained using classical Newton mechanics. It is seen that bubbles not only move in straight line, but also in circular motion.

Influence of Organo-Sulfur Compounds with Overbased Calcium Compounds on Lubrication in Cold Forming

open access: yesLubricants, 2017
The authors analyzed the structures of sulfurized olefins using NMR spectroscopy and studied the effects of sulfur chain length and alkyl structure on the ironing performance.

Congener specific organic carbon normalized soil and sediment-water partitioning coefficients for the C1 through C8 perfluorinated alkylsulfonic and alkylcarboxylic acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Organic carbon normalized soil and sediment-water partitioning (Koc) coefficients were estimated for all C1 through C8 perfluorinated alkylsulfonic acid (PFSA) and alkylcarboxylic acids (PFCA) congeners.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
