Physical nature of strain rate sensitivity of metals and alloys at high strain rates [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2018
The role of instabilities of plastic flow at plastic deformation of various materials is one of the important cross-disciplinary problems which is equally important in physics, mechanics and material science. The strain rate sensitivities under slow and high strain rate conditions of loading have different physical nature.

New approach for determination of strain rate sensitivity of mild steel dc01 under stack compression and uniaxial tensile test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Deformation under uniaxial tensile loading with using Digital Image Correlations (DIC) is the easiest way to analyze the material behavior in sheet metal forming.

Strain rate dependent mechanical properties in single crystal nickel nanowires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We measure the strain rate dependence of 0.2% offset yield stress in single-crystal nickel nanowires with diameters ranging from 80 to 300 nm. In situ tensile experiments with strain rates from 10 4 s 1 to 10 2 s 1 were conducted, and the small ...

Strain Rate Sensitivity Analysis of Duplex and Superduplex Steels in Tensile Tests [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2020
Duplex and super duplex stainless steels have high corrosion resistance, excellent mechanical properties, and high impact strength. Such characteristics make these steels able to operate in various segments of the industry, especially in aggressive ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Theoretical and numerical study of strain rate influence on AA5083 formability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
International audienceWith the application of new forming techniques (hydroforming, incremental forming), it is necessary to improve the characterization of the formability of materials and in particular the influence of strain rate.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Validating performance of automotive materials at high strain rate for improved crash design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper investigates sources of performance variability in high velocity testing of automotive crash structures. Sources of variability, or so called noise factors, present in a testing environment, arise from uncertainty in structural properties ...

Localization in inelastic rate dependent shearing deformations

open access: yes, 2016
Metals deformed at high strain rates can exhibit failure through formation of shear bands, a phenomenon often attributed to Hadamard instability and localization of the strain into an emerging coherent structure.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...
