A technique for the fabrication of encapsulated micro-miniature rosette strain gages for in vivo implantation is described. The gage units have an overall area of ten square millimeters (2.5 mm X 4.0 mm), and hence can be installed in very small experimental animals, particularly rodents.

Soil strain gage instrumentation was developed for the measurement of static and dynamic strains when embedded in soil. The gage is suitable for both laboratory and field application. The strain sensor consists of two mechanically uncoupled flat-coil disks which are embedded in the soil in near parallel and concentric orientation.

Using strain gages to measure both strain and temperature

A transducer is proposed that measures both temperature and strain by using two different strain gages. The theoretical basis for designing such a transducer is developed. Experimental results indicate that the temperature signal can be measured satisfactorily.
