A balloon strain gage

7th Aerodynamic Decelerator and Balloon Technology Conference, 1981
This paper describes the development of a unique strain measuring device which is intended to monitor the state of strain in thin balloon films during flight. The gate is bonded directly to the film without significantly altering the state of strain or stress in the wall of the balloon.

Photoelastic strain gages

Experimental Mechanics, 1961
New photoelastic strain gages are described which are self-contained and give an accurate direct indication of magnitudes and directions of principal stresses. Large numbers of gages may be observed simultaneously and critical areas of members may be readily located.

Strain Gages on Composites—Gage-Selection Criteria

1989
Selection of the proper strain gage is one of the first steps toward a successful test. The test material, the test environment, and the goals of the strain-gage survey must all be considered when choosing a strain gage, as well as the total cost of the gage installation.

Introduction to the Application of Strain Gages

2015
This chapter reviews the basic formulas of electrical resistance strain gages and related circuits, as well as some concepts that are not always emphasized in specialized books. Some sections of the chapter deal with the limits of the maximum and minimum values of the measurable strain, the choice of the resistance of the commercial gages series, the ...

Lateral Effects In Strain Gages

1992
Abstract Strain sensitivity is a general term relating unit change in resistance and strain in an electrical conductor according to the following expression: The numerical value of the strain sensitivity will depend upon the conditions under which it has been determined.

Progress on Metalfilm Strain Gages

1958
The Metalfilm high-temperature strain gage (Fig. 1) was designed to achieve maximum conformability to irregular surfaces. Lateral stability of the unmounted grid was achieved by employing unique extensions of the grid and by making the width of each element approximately one hundred times its thickness.
