Higher order nonlocal strain gradient approach for wave characteristics of carbon nanorod
In this paper an attempt is made to study the wave dispersion characteristics of a carbon nanorod through second, fourth, sixth and eighth order nonlocal strain gradient models. Expressions are derived for both wave number and wave speeds of the nanorod.

The present work aims to primarily provide a general representation of the solution of the simplified elastostatics version of Mindlin’s Form II first-strain gradient elastic theory, which converges to the solution of the corresponding classical elastic ...

The Evolution of Strain Gradient and Anisotropy in Gradient-Structured Metal [PDF]
Gradient-structured metals have been reported to possess superior mechanical properties, which were attributed to their mechanical heterogeneity. Here we report in-situ observation of the evolution of strain gradient and anisotropy during tensile testing of a gradient-structured metal.

Perspective on hetero-deformation induced (HDI) hardening and back stress
Heterostructured materials have been reported as a new class of materials with superior mechanical properties, which was attributed to the development of back stress.

Strain gradient and electric field gradient effects in piezoelectric cantilever beams
A piezoelectric beam model with strain gradient and electric gradient effects is proposed. An energy variational principle with strain, strain gradient, electric field, and electric field gradient considered as independent variables is postulated to ...

Investigation of continuum damage mechanics model without element size sensitivity
A discontinuous material behavior such as ductile fracture and fatigue failure is predicted actively in various fields by FEM. There is continuum damage mechanics as a method to evaluate the discontinuous material behavior in a framework of continuum ...

A Review on Heterogeneous Nanostructures: A Strategy for Superior Mechanical Properties in Metals
Generally, strength and ductility are mutually exclusive in homogeneous metals. Nanostructured metals can have much higher strength when compared to their coarse-grained counterparts, while simple microstructure refinement to nanoscale generally results ...
