Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

Molecular Identification of Yersinia pestis Strains Isolated in the Aksai High-Mountain Focus of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2024

open access: yesПроблемы особо опасных инфекций
The Aksai high-mountain focus is part of the Tien Shan focus, which has recently shown constant epizootic activity. In 2024, Yersinia pestis cultures were isolated from the Aksai focus for the first time in the 21st century.

Variation in physiological host range in three strains of two species of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Knowledge of the host range of a biocontrol agent (BCA) is fundamental. Host range determines the BCA's economic potential, as well as the possible risk for non-target organisms. Entomopathogenic fungal strains belonging to the genus Beauveria are widely

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Bacterial wilt resistance in tomato, eggplant and pepper : genetic resources challenged with the multifaceted Ralstonia solanacearum species complex : [P3-49] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Bacterial wilt caused by strains belonging to the #Ralstonia solanacearum# species complex inflicts severe economic losses in many crops worldwide. Host resistance remains the most effective control strategy against the bacterial wilt.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

THE EFFECT OF SELECTED MATERIAL PARAMETERS ON THE STRESS AND STRAIN STATES IN THE PROCESS OF CUTTING A SHEET PLATE WITH CIRCULAR CUTTERS

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 2006
The influence of the type of material on deformations and stresses of sheet metal in the process of cutting with numerical tools is presented. The Cowper-Symonds model is used to describe the properties of cut sheet-plate and the influence of two ...
