Some aspects of 3D finite element modeling of independent wire rope core [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2011
This paper explores some aspects of 3D modeling of independent wire rope core (IWRC). Using advanced 3D modeling techniques, finite element analysis of IWRC was investigated, with special emphasis on diverse types of contacts between wires.

False-Negative CSF Cryptococcal Antigen with Cryptococcus gattii Meningoencephalitis in Southeastern United States: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases, 2020
A 70-year-old immunocompetent male in South Carolina was admitted secondary to altered mental status and headache without focal neurological deficits. Head CT was negative. Lumbar puncture (LP) revealed normal glucose, elevated protein, and lymphocytosis.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Study on the application of thermal-meltable recovery of CFRP strand anchors

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment
Conventional pressure-type anchoring systems face challenges such as difficulty in recovery, low recovery efficiency, and insufficient durability over long-term use. Although the single-use cost of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strand anchors is

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Assessing Changes in Dielectric Properties Due to Nanomaterials Using a Two-Port Microwave System

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Detecting changes in the dielectric properties of tissues at microwave frequencies can offer simple and cost effective tools for cancer detection. These changes can be enhanced by the use of nanoparticles (NPs) that are characterised by both increased ...
